How to Measure Roller Shades
Inside Mount Measurement
Width Measurement: Measure the inside width of the window opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Record the narrowest measurement.
Height Measurement: Measure the inside height at the left, center, and right. Record the largest measurement.
Important Sizing Note: Use the exact opening measurements and follow the sizing instructions shown on the relevant product page. Do not make an additional deduction unless those instructions specifically request one, as production allowances may vary by product and mounting method.
Light-Gap Consideration: Inside-mounted roller shades may leave a small visible gap at the edges so the fabric and mechanism can operate properly. The amount of light entering around the shade varies with the fabric, window shape, measurements, and installation; this is especially noticeable with blackout fabrics.
Outside Mount Measurement
Width Measurement: Measure the total width you want the shade to cover. Where the surrounding space allows, extending the shade approximately 2 to 4 inches beyond each side of the window opening can help improve privacy and reduce light around the edges.
Height Measurement: Decide where the roller mechanism will be installed, then measure from that mounting point to the window sill or your preferred lower stopping point.
